Sick To My Stomach

Terri Schiavo is alive!

From an article posted March 5, 2005, on WorldNetDaily.com came this:

Yesterday, Nobel prize nominee Dr. William Hammesfahr issued a statement saying he had examined Terri Schiavo and believes her injury, hypoxic encephalopathy, is a type of stroke that he treats every day with success.

Yet, Terri, a disabled woman who is unable to speak for herself, is being tortured to death. Terri's husband, Michael Schiavo, with the blessing of the Florida judicial system, has decided she should die and is starving her to death. Not only are they starving her, they are withholding all fluids. This is as sick as it gets!!

Dr. Jack Kevorkian, a retired pathologist and currently prisoner #284797, is serving a 10-25 year sentence and a seven year sentence (sentences to run concurrently) in a Michigan prison. His crime? Kevorkian, aka 'Dr. Death,' helped long suffering and/or terminally ill people die. All of the people 'Dr. Death' aided were able to speak for themselves and had requested his assistance. The deaths of the people Kevorkian helped were quick and painless, their suffering was over in a matter of seconds. Yet a Michigan court decided that 70 year old Kevorkian had committed a crime so terrible that he should be punished severely.

In Florida, the courts have decided that it was Terri Schiavo's wish to die should she ever be unable to care for herself, and Michael Schiavo, with the aid of numerous Florida judges and appellate judges, is doing his best to carry out his helpless wife's wishes. Really no more than that which Jack Kevorkian was convicted of. There are, however, important differences. Kevorkian helped people die humanely, with dignity, and with the full knowledge of the suffering individuals. I seriously doubt Terri ever said she would like to be tortured to death to end her suffering, yet, courtesy of Michael Schiavo and the the state of Florida, Terri is suffering a slow, gruesome and painful death.

The courts protect terrorists, mass murderers, rapists, kidnappers, child molesters, jaywalkers, dogs, cows, horses and even cats from treatment far less egregious than the treatment being meted out to Terri Schiavo. Incomprehensibly, the courts won't protect her.

I am not against euthanasia. I am against barbarism, and Terriā€™s starvation and dehydration is exactly that.

This makes me sick - sick to my stomach.

Note: I liked Ann Coulter's latest column (3/24/2005) entitled Starved For Justice suggesting Florida Governor Jeb Bush ignore Judge Greer and intercede on Terri Schiavo's behalf.
