Superbowl Bust

Congratulations to the Pittsburgh Steelers! They won a relatively boring Superbowl XL game 21-10.

I had predicted that the Steelers would win but I was not really rooting for either side. From the beginning it appeared that my prediction would not come true. The Seahawks began the game playing very well and the Steelers could not move the ball at all, and for most of the game the Seattle Seahawks outplayed the Steelers. Unfortunately for the Seahawks, it seemed that the officiating was not going to allow a Seattle win.

The officials took away one touchdown on a highly controversial offensive pass interference penalty and called a 'convenient' holding penalty when the Seahawks made a catch inside the Steelers' 5-yard line on a pass play. You don't have to take my word for it, but none other than newly elected hall of fame coach John Madden agreed that neither were penalties. On another call just before the end of the first half, the officials made a call which gave the Steelers quarterback a touchdown when it was quite apparent that he did not get into the end zone.

It’s too bad that questionable officiating made such a difference in the outcome of the game.
