Stupidity In Action
Jonathan Gruber, one of the masterminds of the Massachusetts socialized medical insurance plan implemented while Mitt Romney was governor, was everyone's go to advisor during the planning of the Affordable Care Act nationally. Receiving millions of dollars from the federal and state governments for his expertise, Gruber was lauded in speeches by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senate majority leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and HRH Obama.
Gruber, while consulting with HRH, felt that the only was to get the ACA passed was to prey on the 'stupidity' of the American people. The plan was to make the bill so large and convoluted that even the Congressional Budget Office couldn't figure out how to score it financially.
Recently, however, Gruber has been running around giving speeches during which he laughs about how they were relying on the stupidity of the American people to get the ACA enacted. During these speeches he has also been pointing out that the health insurance act in Massachusetts was unsustainable by itself and had been subsidized by the federal government to the tune of over $400 million dollars.
The amazing part of the whole thing is that the real stupid people in the ACA debacle were the lawmakers who voted to pass the bill which was designed to take over about 18% of the entire nation's economy. Famously, even Speaker Pelosi was mystified by the bill and said that the bill had to be passed so that we could find out what was in it. That from the one of the top lawmakers in the land. How is that for stupid?
Truth be told, you don’t have to be a professor at MIT to see that giving insurance to 40 million people who have to pay little or nothing for it will put an additional strain on the entire health care system. The numbers didn't add up in Massachusetts and they won't add up nationally. The name should be changed to the Unaffordable Care Act.
