Injustice In America

The justice system in America is, in theory, probably the fairest system in the world. Unfortunately, we have some judges with partisan or personal agendas who are more and more often screwing things up.

This has been quite apparent in some recent cases:

Sandy Berger, President Clinton's National Security Advisor, received no time in jail for stealing and destroying documents from the National Archives. I believe his sentence should have been 10 years in federal prison.

Paris Hilton gets 45 days for breaking the terms of her probation twice after her no-contest DUI plea. I believe her sentence should have been the 45 days the judge sentenced her to.

Mary Winkler received a sentence of merely 210 days in prison and 3 years probation for shooting her husband in the back while he slept and letting him die. I believe her sentence should have been 20 years of hard labor on a chain gang.

I. 'Scooter' Libby, Vice-President Cheney's chief-of-staff, received a sentence of 2 1/2 years in federal prison and fined hime $250.000 for giving conflicting accounts of his recollections involving CIA agent Valerie Plame. I believe his sentence should have been 2 years of probation.

12,000,000 illegal aliens who don't pay taxes, get free on-demand medical care at any emergency room and free education for their children in the over-crowded public school system (because they are attending) are going to be given amnesty and citizenship if President Bush and half the Congress get their way in return for a $5,000.00 fine. I believe none of the illegal aliens should be given citizenship, and they should all be deported when apprehended by any law enforcement agency. If they come back a second time, they should be given the pleasure of spending 5 years on a chain gang in Maricopa County, AZ.

Note: For an interesting analysis of the disparity between the Berger and Libby sentences, check out this article at Cronwatch.
